November Society Day

The November Society day, the first of the Winter season, was held at Brombourgh Golf Club. To find it you basically you don't get a chance to follow the signs to Llangollen as its far too local for that.
The weather was overcast with showers, heavy at times, with occasional dryish periods and the very occasional glimpse of the sun. Basically our long (3 years plus) run of good Society Day weather seems to be coming to an end - but it was good whilst it lasted.
The Society has never been to Brombourgh before, but from the comments heard from many members it is a venue which we could be returning to. Despite the weather the ground was reasonably dry under foot, the course was challenging and well maintained, and it was'nt a hard slog round with few hills etc.
Considering the weather conditions scoring was quite high, with most members getting over 25 points. The Handicap Secretary appears to have got the Winter season handicaps generally right / consistant across the board - but no doubt there is the occasional minor disagreement with this.
The main competition of the Day was the CMP competiton, which this year took the form of a Calcutta Cup team format which brought out the competitor in all of us. The results were as follows;-
4th Place Peter Smythe, Neil McNay and Tony Anderson 62 Stapleford points
3rd Place Ian McCarthy, Ralph Vaighan, Carl Hayhurst and Graham Coupe 68 Stapleford Points
2nd Place Tom Rogers, Ian Taylor, Dave Worron & Gordon Evans 82 Stapleford points
1st Place Graham Almond, Mal Segar, Alan Bennett & James Arathoon 85 Stapleford points
Many congratulations to the winners, who get to share in the CMP Cup at the presentation in just under 12 months time.
Alongside the main competition a side 18 hole competition was of Individual Stapleford score was held, again this was a relatively high scoring day, with the overall results were as follows;-
1st Ian "no position pressure" Taylor 40 points
2nd Mal Segar 37 points
3rd James Arathoon 36 points
As there was no 2's competition inevitably 2 members scored a 2, which is just sods law when you think about it. So Neil McNay's 2 cancelling out Peter Smythes earlier 2 did'nt really have any great effect, but its nice to get one anyway.
