The May Society day, the third of the Summer season, was held at Blundells Hill Golf Club, a privately run course just along the M62 to the east of Liverpool.

The day started off really sunny and stayed that way all day. Blundells Hill is a lovely course, very challenging in places and well maintained. One knew that it was going to be an interesting day, with the Putting Ground being very scenic, reasonably undulating and extremely fast.

The course favours those with an in built draw, having been built in a anti clockwise direction. The green keepers had kindly placed most of the pins on the greens behind approach bunkers, which combined with the fact that most greens also had a course border or fence or similar hazard to the rear made accuracy the order of the day. Being a big hitter did'nt really help that much (apart from the longest drive of course) as you needed to think your way around the course.

Some of the Knockout Competition matches were played today, with results as follows;-

a) Peter Smythe beat Mal Segar in a very close match on the 18th fairway

b) Ian "Ell Capitan" Taylor beat Phil Wright

c) James Arrathoon over come an outstanding effort by Dave Worron

d) Ralph Vaughan over came a late challenge by Steve Crayford to reach the semi's

e) Tony Anderson beat Nigel Hall in a rear guard action.

The competition was our normal Individual Stapleford Competition. This was a relatively high scoring day, with every one continuing to settle in to their new Handicaps. The overall results were as follows;-

1st   James Arathoon   42 points

2nd  Dave Worron    40 points

3rd   Graham Almond  37 points

4th Ralph Vaughan  36 points

In the side comps;-

The Longest Drive was driven by James "OK skip" Arathoon

who out drove Ian "Beat that K!!!!!!d" Taylor

and

The nearest Nearest-the-Pin ball was positioned by Ian "I hate !!!!!" Taylor

who got closer than Ralph "So Do I" Vaughan.

The Random Card draw was won by Graham Coupe,

Dave Worrons '2' was later ruled null and void by Neil McNays "2) so that means the 2's rolls over yet again.
