The June Society day, the fourth of the Summer season, was held at Chirk Golf Club, a privately run course just sown the A483. To find it you just follow the signs to Llangollen, until of course its time to start going towards Chirk.

The day started off reasonably overcast and stayed that way for a while before becoming brighter finally turning into quite a nice day. Chirk is a very long course, with several climbs betweens holes. Having said that the holes are interesting, the greens are readable !! and all in all a nice day out.

Starting off on the quaint par 3 course, followed (eventually) by chicken and chips (not in a basket) we rounded the day off on the 18 hole course. On the big course we saw lots of animals, squirrels, rabbits, ducks, pheasants, and also the occasional birdie.

Some of the Knockout Competition matches were played today, with results as follows;-

a) Graham Coupe beat Peter Smythe in an exceedingly very close match on the last putt on the green of the 18th.

This was our Captains Day, with loads of competitions and prizes which are summarised below.

The competition on the Par 3 course was a straight forward Medal, the overall results were as follows;-

1st   Peter Smythe  net 23

2nd  Alan Bennett    net 25

3rd   Ian Taylor / Neil McNay / Carl Bown   net 26

The 18 hole competition was our normal Individual Stapleford Competition. This was a relatively high scoring day, with the overall results were as follows;-

1st   Ralph Vaughan  39 points

2nd  Alan Bennett    34 points

3rd   Neil McNay  32 points

4th Mal Segar  31 points

In the side comps;-

The Longest Drive was driven by Ralph "No Problem" Vaughan

who out drove Dave "New ball Please" Worron

who out drove Graham "Ka Boooom" Couper

and

The nearest Nearest-the-Pin balls were positioned by Ralph Vaughan (3rd), Steve Crayford (8th), Ian Taylor (12th) and Graham Coupe (14th)

The Random Card draw was won by Alan Bennett,

Ralph Vaughan's '2' was not matched by anyone else so that means the Grange Public House Landlord will be a little bit richer by now.

You may have noticed that there is one name that features heavily in the above lists of members, whether this is connected to the fact that there is one name missing from the above Bandits' list is merely a coincidence. James was unfortunately injured on the 9th hole and unable to continue his game, being rushed off to hospital heard to be shouting "Take me past the 16th, i can get a quick drive in to at least pick up something from today".

On a serious note we all hope James, that you recover quickly and return to join us on the Society Days.

and Tom would like to pass on the news that you don't get your strokes back until you actually finish a round)
