January Society Match Day

The January Society day was held at Walton Hall, a municipal run course over towards Warrington. The day started off a bit damp underfoot, but once we left the car park it got really soggy. However the sun came out later on which made for a very pleasant day all round. They also allowed trollies on the course, and not a sight was seen of the Phantom Hedgehog Wheel Cover Pusher so often found closer to home.

The Golden Nugget Trophy was being played for in a Yellow Ball competiton format, which saw 14 memebers keeping their eyes very closely peeled on the little yellow ball, sometimes so they knew exactly where they'd lost it in the water or the rough.

It was a very close competition to start with, but once the drives had been completed on the 1st tee the teams started to drift apart. In the end, only one team managed to get home with their yellow ball complete (runour has it that this was achieved by keeping the ball in their pocket the whole way round - but that was only heard from one of the sore losers)

The teams were as follows;-

1st       James Arathoon, Phil Wright, Carl Hayhurst

                            (on around 500+ stapleford points)

2nd    Steve Crayford, Paul Anderson & Alan Bennett

(did'nt keep ball till the end)

3rd     Ralph Vaughan, Neil McNay, Graham Almond & Tony Anderson

(did'nt keep the ball to the end of the front 9)

4th     Peter Smythe, Graham Coupe, Ian Taylor & Tom Rogers

(did'nt keep the ball very long)

Alongside the above competition there was also our normal Individual Stapleford Competition. This was a high scoring day, with every one scoring over 24 points. The overall results were as follows;-

1st   Phil Wright   40 points

2nd  Paul Anderson     39 points (on count back)

3rd   Graham Almond   39 points

4th   James Arathoon   38 points

There was also a reasonably clean sweep of the side comps, with;-

The Longest Drive was driven by James "yeehhaah" Arathoon

and

The nearest Nearest-the-Pin ball was positioned by James "Love It" Arathoon.

The Random Card draw was won by Alan Bennett.

The Two's was'nt won by anyone so is carried forward to next month.
