The August Society day, the sixth of the Summer season, was held at Maesdu Golf Club by Llandudno. To find it you just follow the A55 and signs to Llangollen, until of course its time to start going towards Llandudno.

The day started off overcast and stayed that way for most of the day, however apart from the odd shower the day was for reasobnably bright with the odd sunny period.

Maesdu is a nice course (even better in the sun i imagine) with stunning views of clouds and mist where the stunning views of hills should be. There is a pleasant mixture of hole types, ie easy ones, hardish ones, and "oh my god, what did i do there" ones. Being on the coast it was fairly windy, with this being evidenced by every tree leaning over away from the sea. That said the wind and occasional rain shower did nothing to dampen the efforts of the memebers, with 11 of the 15 players gaining 30 or more points. The Handicap Secretary was seen on several occasions to be making copious notes in his little black golf - though of course these nots may have had nothing to do with golf.

After a long days golf and a very filling meal there was the nice drive home to look forward to, with lots of time to view the fabulous scenary as all the other vehicles on the road were also taking their time to look at the scenary. Many thanks to the kind member who booked a North Wales coastal course in the middle on summer on a sunday in the school holidays - good timing (not)

The Pairs Knockout Semi-Final Competition matches were played today, with results as follows;-

a) Peter Smythe & Ralph Vaughan beat Graham Coupe & Dave Worron in their return match, the first one being washed off down the hills at the last course.

b) Neil McNay & Carl Hayhurst beat Gordon Evans & Alan Bennett in a close match, well close in a sort of "on the 1st tee before a ball was hit they were all even" way.

The 18 hole competition was an Individual Stapleford Competition, based on 18 holes as this time, despite the location and threatening conditions rain did not stop play for any of the groups. This was a relatively high scoring day, with the overall results were as follows;-

1st   Tony Anderson  40 points

2nd  Steve Crayford  36 points

3rd   Carl Hayhurst  35 points

A special mention for Carl Bowen who scored 37 points. Unfortunatley it is a Society rule that a player needs to have 3 cards handed and thus be awarded an official Society (Tom "i can beat him on that") Handicap before they can enter the Competitions

4th Ralph Vaughan / Neil McNay / Alan Bennett 33 points

(can't be bothered to work out the count back)

In the side comps;-

The Longest Drive was driven by James "Yabadabadoooo!" Arathoon

who out drove Dave Worron who had out driven Gordon Evans

and

The nearest Nearest-the-Pin ball was positioned by Ralph Vaughan

The Random Card draw was won by Peter Smythe,

No one scored a "2" so that means the Grange Public House Landlord will have to wait for his profits as it Rolls Over to next month.

Update on the Summer Pairs Eclectic Competition

Graham Coupe & Dave Worron  62 points to date

Alan Bennett & Gordon Evans  60 points to date

Ralph Vaughan & Peter Smythe  59 points to date

Nigel Hall & Tom Rogers  59 points to date

Tony Anderson & Paul Anderson  59 points to date

Neil McNay & Carl Hayhurst  59 points to date

However remember that the scores are worked out on the end of season Handicaps so the above can change slightly depending on how well, or bad, you play for the rest of the season
