The seventh and final Society Day of 2008 Summer Season  saw 20 members frantically phoning each other due to the weather closing course right left and centre over the North West area. As such, we weren't able to travel to our planned venue of Hurlston Hall and instead decided to settle on the Warren, a 9 hole course very local and founded on sandy free draining ground and thus open despite the weather. The Professional in the shop was making the most of it, extalling the virtues of the course over and above all others.

The course was nice, maintained as normal and one of those challenging but playable courses which you would probably play better the next time round when it was'nt blowing a gale. And blowing a gale it was - very few members managed to drive the first fairway - plenty of members hit a fairway, it was just either the 2nd or 9th depending on whether you hooked or sliced or faded or drawed.

Some of our members had anticipated the change in venue and had trialled the course on the previous Friday, achieving in the process an eagle on the 9th. However this tremendous feat was not repeated today, though plenty of par's were scored.

The chances are that we will return to the course, mainly because its local and good value.

Highest Stapleford score was James Arathoon with 23 points (from 9 holes) closely followed by Steve Crayford on 20 points who was a close head ahead of Andy Harvey on 18 points who himself was a count back ahead of Tom Rogers and Graham Almond.

This day we were playing for the Charters Cup, donated by a local firm of builders.

Other (much less noteable) results for the Day

The Longest Drive was driven by Neil McNay

and

The nearest Nearest-the-Pin ball was positioned by Peter Smythe who used the flooded green to great effect.

Not sure if there was a Random Card draw but watch this space.

The Two's was'nt won by anyone so is carried forward to next month.
