The fifth Society Day of 2008 Summer Season  saw 19 members venture yet south and a bit east to visit the Eaton Golf Course. Several members recalled their last visit to this course 2 years ago, it being the venue for the Captains Day in 2006.

Even though we had booked ahead the club house was remarkably quiet, they even had to wake up the kitchen stff early so they could hurry in and make us what turned out to be very nice Bacon Butties. The course itself was very quiet also, largely it is rumoured as most members of the club are millionaires and as such spend weekends away in much sunnier places.

Once out on the course it was a good days golf, the course being challenging in a nice way, in that there was'nt loads of sand and water to swallow up your balls. Unfortunately your's truly managed to find the vast majority of the hazards, and one of our invited guests also managed to find two bunkers in quick succession, his excellent third attempt shot out of the first bunker being celebrated by the ball going straight in to the second bunker.

Being a private course the officials were keen to keep up standards, and were seen on several occasions driving around the course in a souped up golf cart chasing down our very own Gordon who was prone to flashing his legs at any opportunity.  Apparently this display did'nt please everyone so he was made to cover them up again pretty sharpish.

The Trophy being played for today was the Bob Hitchmough trophy, and we were pleased to be accompanied on the day by representaives of Bob's family. Unfortunately our illustrious Captain was up to his old "forgetfullness" tricks again and one of our guests hadn't actually been informed that it was a golf day, so could only walk around the course. Personally, given the days golf i had, i would have done better to let Steve use my clubs and i should have walked round instead

Highest Stapleford score James Arathoon with 37 points closely followed by Neil McNay on 34 points who was a close head ahead of Steve Crayford on 33 points. Generally the difficulty of the course was reflected in the relatively low Stapleford scores of the remaining competitors, an note worthy exception to this being our very own Gordon "Good Time" Evans on 30 points.

Other results for the Day

The Longest Drive was driven by James "Yabadabadoooo" Arathoon whose tremendous effect was never beaten for combination of accuracy and distance. Paul Ando did beat it in distnace but was off the fairway, and Neil Hitchmoughs drive beat it in both distance and accuracy, unfortunately however James (and the rest of us) hit off from the 16th tee, whereas Neil's effort was off the 13th tee. Nice try Neil, but its called "cheating" (even if totally unintentional) and not good Driving. and

The nearest Nearest-the-Pin ball was positioned by Graham "Dead Eye" Almond.

Random Card draw was won by our very own Nigel "He's the ex-Captain" Hall following a draw by a very lovely young lady from behind the bar, or some one else that Peter accosted

The Two's was'nt won by anyone so is carried forward to next month.
